Provides state licensure and federal certification for acute and outpatient agencies/facilities providing health care. This includes: (1) enforcing state health care and federal Medicare regulations; (2) acting as the contact for applicants wanting to start a new health care agency; (3) inspecting health care agencies/facilities; (4) accepting and investigating complaints and concerns regarding the quality of health care provided by agencies/facilities; (5) maintaining lists of health care agencies/facilities. Agencies/facilities regulated are: adult day care facilities, ambulatory surgical centers, birthing centers, comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation facilities, end stage renal dialysis facilities, free standing emergency centers, home health agencies, hospice agencies and facilities, hospitals, outpatient physical therapy facilities, personal assistance services agencies, portable x-ray suppliers, and prescribed pediatric extended care centers.
